Orland Park Turkey Trot Returns for 31^st Year

Those interested are encouraged to register early for the November 28 event

Orland Park, IL (October 22, 2019)-Orland Park’s annual Turkey Trot is a holiday mainstay, growing in popularity each year. This year marks the event’s 31^st year. The timed race is held on Thanksgiving morning and has become a tradition for many Orland Park residents and guests looking to kick off the holiday with a brisk run before sitting down to their annual feasts.

This year’s 2.5 mile chip-timed cross country race takes runners and walkers through paved roads, paths and wooded areas of Orland Park.

“Many people, young and old alike, look forward to the Turkey Trot every year,” said Mayor Keith Pekau. “It is great to see children, teens and adults spending time together participating as a family.”

All race participants receive a long-sleeved dri-fit race shirt, refreshments and are entered into a post- race raffle for prizes.

“We have so many interested participants that the event sells out early each year,” said Pekau. “We recommend that runners register early to ensure a spot in the race.”

Registration is available online at orlandpark.org and in person at the Orland Park Sportsplex, located at 1351 W 159th Street, and Frederick T. Owens Village Hall, located at 14700 S. Ravinia Avenue.

A frozen turkey will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers. Special turkey trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of 14 age groups. Pre-registration is required and limited to 900 participants.

Race fees are $21 for residents and $25 for non-residents until October 31, 2019. Beginning November 1, fees will increase to $26 for residents and $30 for non-residents.

Pre-race packet pickup is available November 22 through November 26 at The Human Race Sports located at 15148 S. La Grange Road in Orland Park. Day of race packet pickup is also available at the event site beginning at 6:30 a.m.
