The Village of Orland Park is seeking the community's input as officials and staff prepare to update the village's comprehensive plan.

"This is a great opportunity for the community to help the Village Board and staff plan for Orland Park's future," said Orland Park Trustee James Dodge, chair of the village's Development Services Committee.

"Orland Park's comprehensive plan serves as a policy guide for the Village Board and is an important part of everything that the Development Services Department does," Dodge added, noting, "It tells everyone what kind of use is intended for all properties in Orland Park, commercial, residential, industrial, etc."

The village will hold its Public Visioning Workshop on Wednesday, April 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Frederick T. Owens Village Hall, 14700 South Ravinia Avenue.

"Public input is integral as we update the long range plan for what the Village Board feels is the best direction for the village," said Director of Development Services Karie Friling.

Explaining the importance of a comprehensive plan, Friling said, "Comprehensive plans set the policy direction for land use decisions. The plan addresses a number of areas including land use, transportation, housing and more."

The Public Visioning Workshop will begin with a brief presentation about comprehensive plans followed by participants breaking into small groups for discussions.

"This public process is important because it gives people the opportunity to share their visions for Orland Park," said Director of Planning Bob Sullivan, adding, "We're looking for experiences that residents and business people have had in Orland Park and elsewhere, recalling places that both inspire and function well," Sullivan added.

Friling noted that everyone is invited to attend, adding that the village has extended an invitation to the business community through the Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce.

Dodge added, "The comprehensive plan is a strategic blueprint for Orland Park. We're asking for public input because once it's adopted, it becomes an important policy document for staff and serves as a guideline for the Village Board, working on behalf of the residents of the village."

Those who require accommodations for visual, hearing or mobility impairment should contact the village no later than April 22, 2009.
