Posted on 03/16/2017

Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin will receive the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Partner America 2017 "Small Business Advocate Award" for his efforts and support of small businesses in the Village of Orland Park.

The award is given by Partner America, a public-private partnership that was created by the US Conference of Mayors to assist mayors in providing the resources and information small businesses need to thrive within their local communities and the global economy.

McLaughlin will be honored at a Small Business Day Event at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 South Ravinia Avenue. Free and open to the public, the event tailored for small business owners will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The mayor and Director of Development Services Karie Friling will speak, explaining Orland Park's programs available for small businesses.

"Orland Park is very honored to receive this award but more importantly to have so many successful small businesses in the village. They are the heartbeat of our local economy," McLaughlin said. "This is a great event for small business owners to learn more about what programs the village and others have to help them grow."

The event's keynote speaker is Curtis Cello who will deliver his perspective on "Growth in a New Business Climate." Cello is the director of field service for American Management Services, Inc.

Few people have made as many face to face contacts with business owners across the nation as he has over the last decade. Through this experience, Cello has gained a unique understanding of the challenges facing owners in today's business climate. He is a strong advocate for small business owners, and a driving force in the Partner America Initiative, which seeks to help small business owners understand how to overcome common challenges and improve sales, operations, and profitability.
