Short Term Closures Announced for 143rd Street Construction

Short Term Closures Announced for 143rd Street Construction
Posted on 06/06/2011

Beginning Wednesday, June 8, 2011, final roadway grading work required prior to concrete placement for the new 143rd Street roadway will begin, followed by concrete placement on Friday, June 10, 2011.

This work will require the full temporary closure of the "Main Street" Metra commuter parking entrance from 143rd Street, as well as the service road entrance to Orland Plaza behind Randy's Market. These two closures will begin Friday morning, June 10, 2011, and will remain through Tuesday, June 14, 2011 (These closures may be able to be removed more quickly, based upon material strength tests).

On Friday, June 10, 2011 at approximately 6:00 a.m., concrete placement will begin, causing short delays to traffic using 143rd Street, as one lane will be closed during the time that concrete is being placed and unloaded from the delivery trucks.

Through traffic on 143rd Street will be required to share one lane while work is occurring at the west end of the project. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic around the trucks and workers.

As the work moves through the entrance drive to Orland Plaza located immediately in front of Randy's Market, that drive will also have to be closed for approximately one half-hour to allow machines and grade-control equipment to pass through this location.

Via this notice, Plaza businesses and property owners have been notified of upcoming work, temporary limited access from 143rd Street, and anticipated traffic delays.

Single lane closures will be required on 143rd Street beginning at approximately 6:00 a.m., Friday, June 10, as needed. Scheduled work is weather dependent.

Questions may be directed to the Village of Orland Park Public Works Department at 708/403-6350.
