Hundreds of people filled the Orland Park Civic Center for the Village of Orland Park's first Green Fair in 2010. People walked among vendors specializing in environmentally friendly services and products. Orland Park will hold its second annual Green Fair on Saturday, April 9, again at the Orland Park Civic Center, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

"Orland Park has taken a leadership role with its green initiative," said Mayor Dan McLaughlin. "Many of our businesses and residents have embraced the village's ‘SmartLiving Orland Park' program and are actively doing what they can to reduce their carbon footprints," the mayor added.

Businesses that offer environmentally friendly products or services are invited to rent tables at the fair. The village's Smart Living Team is seeking vendors that specialize in recycling, green technologies and products, alternative transportation, green buildings and transportation. The cost to rent a table is $25 and scholarships are available for non-profit and education organizations.

"We had a great first time event last year with people from throughout the region stopping in to learn how they too could help the environment," said Trustee Patricia Gira, chair of the village's Recreation, Parks and Environmental Initiatives Committee. "All ages came through, from Cub Scouts with their dens on up to seniors who were curious to see what's available," she added.

Tentative green vendors include landscape companies, rain barrel vendors, those that sell environmentally friendly home products and services, cleaning products, organic cotton clothiers, dry cleaning, cleaning companies, building and home supplies, insulated building materials and more.

To apply to rent a table at the fair, businesses may visit the Smart Living Orland Park website at www.smartlivingop.com. Applications may be completed, saved and then emailed to smartliving@orland-park.il.us. Or, they may be printed and faxed to 708/403-6171.

Fees will be due upon businesses being approved for the fair and vendors will be notified by March 25 if they've been selected to showcase their products or services.

"We're hoping to bring in as many different types of green vendors as possible," McLaughlin explained.

"We'd like a true cross section of the green industry with a lot of information so that everyone can learn what's out there," Gira said.
