Area veterans and their family members are invited to attend a free Veterans Aid and Attendance Seminar hosted by Mayor Dan McLaughlin and the Orland Park Board of Trustees on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Orland Park Civic Center.

"There are many veterans who are unaware of the benefits they are eligible for and to which they are entitled," said McLaughlin. "We hope those in attendance will have a better understanding of how to obtain benefits to help make their necessary medical care more affordable."

The seminar will include a presentation by the Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) of Will County. Attendees will receive step by step instructions along with how to qualify for non-service connected pensions with aid and attendance benefits for eligible veterans and surviving spouses.

"This is a great opportunity to learn about what's available to help veterans," said Trustee Jim Dodge, a veteran of the US Army National Guard. "We encourage vets, their families and surviving spouses to attend and learn more about what's available to them."

Attendees will be able to ask questions at the end of the presentation and learn how to apply for the benefits.

Two sessions will be held at the Orland Park Civic Center on March 30. The first session will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the second session offered from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Questions may be directed to the village's Veterans Commission at 708/403-6115.
