Get the family into the holiday spirit and share some laughs as the Village of Orland Park Theatre Troupe presents their holiday show, "The Family Fruitcake" Dec. 8, 9, & 10 at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 Ravinia Avenue.

Catch the show on Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. or on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.

Attendees of all ages are welcome to come out and enjoy the two-hour show that tells the story of Laurie McKinnon, a mom determined to give her family a normal Christmas, despite her oldest son being away serving in the military.

Laurie rushes about making sure everything is ready for the impending arrival of the extended family, although her husband and teenage daughter are unconvinced of the need to impress everyone. Meanwhile, youngest daughter arrives downstairs in full camouflage makeup. Her mother is less than enthused. Visitors soon trickle in and comedy ensues.

"I love doing shows with hidden meaning. In this case, Fruitcake has many meanings in this production," said Orland Park resident and show director, Frann Carnivele. "It's been fun to see the family dynamics played out in front of us. It's like being at home - very normal, typical. It's very heartwarming."

The Family Fruitcake is directed by Carnivele along with assistant director, Mary Tuminello, and written by Rebecca Frohling.

The Orland Park cast includes Annie Burns, Sarah Callis, Krystle Cousins, Etienne Fellmann, Amy Henrichs, Samantha Manning, Declan Mulvey, Saoirse Redmond, Bryan Riess, Makayla Spatz, Naomi Turk, Marc and Will Vajarsky.

Orland Hills residents include Hannah and Michelle Belair. Brett Gustafson from Midlothian. Suzanne Hamilton from Homer Glen. Carli Mendoza from Mokena. Zoe Touloupakis of Palos Park. Ryan Valecek of New Lenox.

"We have several new actors to OPTT and to the stage and they are fitting into the groove very naturally," Carnivele said of the 20-member cast that includes 12 children. "It's fun to watch the younger actors guide them and offer advice, especially when they're under 10 and guiding an adult!"

Cost is $14 adults; $12 seniors & students; $10 children age 12 and under.

Reserved-seating tickets are available in-person only through the village's Recreation Administration Office, located at 14600 S. Ravinia Avenue. The Rec. Admin. Office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
