Aspiring singers have an opportunity to hone their vocal skills with world-renowned singers during a week-long summer vocal camp hosted by the Village of Orland Park Recreation Department.

Vocal students of all levels are welcome to register for the camp that runs Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in room 203 of the village's Cultural Center, 14760 Park Lane. The camp is open to singers ages 10 and up.

The camp features world famous baritone opera singer, Jonathan Beyer, who hails from Orland Park and regularly returns to his hometown to perform. The camp also features professional singers Karin Mushegain, Amanda Crider, and Sarah Gartshore.

"Jonathan had the idea for this camp and he includes singers he is currently touring with," said Jean Petrow, program supervisor for the Recreation Department. "In addition to performing for the village's Arts Commission last November, Beyer has performed many sold out shows in the area."

Singers will learn proper vocal techniques, as well as acting, staging, movement opera and musical theater from the four professional vocalists.

The week's singing and performance activities will conclude with a vocal performance on Friday afternoon, with selections catered to each student's goals and abilities.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from world-renowned performers coming to the village of Orland Park," Petrow added.

The fee for the week-long vocal camp is $250 for residents; $380 for non-residents. Summer Vocal Camp is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with lunch provided.

Register through the village's Recreation Administration Office, 14600 S. Ravinia Avenue, (708) 403-7275.
