Orland Park History Museum Hosts Dec. 9 Christmas in Orland Holiday Craft Event
Posted on 12/11/2017

Get into the holiday spirit at the Village of Orland Park History Museum's 'Christmas in Orland' craft and art event from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the museum, located at 14415 Beacon Avenue.

The holiday event features complimentary refreshments and a station to make your own ornament and Christmas cards. The watercolor class previously advertised has been canceled.

"Residents are invited to come out and enjoy an afternoon devoted to celebrating Christmas in Orland Park," said Trustee Kathy Fenton, the village board liaison to the museum. "The history museum will be decorated for the season, with activities perfect for all ages."

"Also open during this festive holiday party is the museum's newest exhibit, 'Life of an Orlander,' that opened in November," said Museum Curator, Sarah Konzen. "'Christmas in Orland' is a day to get into the holiday spirit and to also appreciate our village's unique history. The exhibit is free, so come out and celebrate with us."

Residents are also invited to participate in the exhibit's before & after photo contest - to highlight the many old and new building that bring color to the village.

"We're asking residents to submit photos that show something old in Orland, and then submit a photo that shows something new," Konzen explained. "If residents want to submit their old photographs and then take a photo of more modern construction, that would be great, too."

Residents can also submit a collage of just old or new photos - highlighting the newer developments happening around town or capturing images of the oldest buildings in the village.

"We hope residents will get creative and have fun with this contest," she said. "All photos can be dropped off at the museum or emailed directly to me with the subject line Before/After Photo Contest."

Submissions must include a full name and an email address or phone number. Photos will be on display in the museum and the winner will be announced in March.

'Life of an Orlander' exhibit runs until March, 2018 and highlights the growth of Orland Park from a small farming town of 300 at the time of its incorporation in 1892, to a booming suburb in 2017 with almost 60,000 residents.

Village Orland Park History Museum opened in April of 2016 and is open every Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m.to 1 p.m.
