Village Unveils New Fitness Option at the Sportsplex for Kids and Teens


ORLAND PARK, IL (December 30, 2019) – Those looking for more fitness options for their kids and teens are in luck. The Village of Orland Park’s 2020 lineup of activities includes a new program called Extended PE Class & Fitness for Kids. The class, which includes activities one would find in a typical gym class atmosphere, is offered at the Orland Park Sportsplex located at 11351 W. 159th Street.

“Participants will play kickball, basketball, dodgeball and more,” said Sportsplex Fitness Center Manager Deborah Geghen. “It is a great way for kids to stay active during the after school hours.”


Six-week long sessions are offered on Tuesdays as well as Thursdays from January 7 through May 14 for kids 8 to 16 years of age. Tuesday classes begin at 4:30 p.m. and end at 5:25 p.m. Thursday’s classes begin at 4:00 p.m. and end at 4:55 p.m. No class will be offered on March 24 and 26. Cost for members is $55, $60 for residents and $90 for non-residents.


In addition to the new Extended PE class, the Sportsplex also offers Sports Conditioning for Kids, a blend of agility, speed, power and strength training designed to help young athletes prepare for the upcoming sports season. “This class is geared to assist athletes focus and achieve their individual goals,” said Geghen. The Sports Conditioning class for kids ages 7 to 16 meets on Saturday from 12-12:55 p.m. There are three, six-week long sessions available between from January 11 and May 16. No class will be held on March 28. Cost for members is $55, $60 for residents and $90 for non-residents.


Fitness Fusion is another class offered exclusively for 7 to 13 year olds at the Sportsplex. In this class, attendees will experience a mix of yoga, kickboxing, spin cycling and strength training. Three, six-week long sessions are available on Fridays at 4:15-5 p.m. from January 10 through May 15, no class on March

27. Cost is $42 for members, $47 for residents and $71 for non-residents.


Maybe your kid is up for some boot camp style training? The Boot Camp class on Mondays and Wednesdays from January 6 through May 13 offers a certified personal trainer to lead participants through various drills and obstacle courses incorporating weights, cardio machines, jump ropes and more. Member cost is $80, residents $85 and non-residents $128 for three, six-week long sessions.

A Fly/Aerial Yoga class is being offered for two different ages groups at the Sportsplex. 7 to 13 year olds are invited to explore movement and breathing in a positive a nurturing environment using aerial hammocks on Thursdays from 4-4:50 p.m. Three different sessions are available between January 9 and May 14. The same class is offered for those ages 14 and up on Wednesdays from 7 to 7:50p.m. from January 8 through May 13. The cost for members is $85, residents $90 and non-residents $135.
