An Orland Park summer favorite, the village’s Farmers’ Market is a Friday morning destination. This year brings another season of fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers and potted plants, bakery items, fudge, jams, jellies, gourmet foods, spices, jewelry, garden stones, kitchenware and more.
“The village’s Farmers’ Market is a Friday morning summer tradition for people from throughout the region,” said Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin. “It’s a great way to start the weekend, buying fresh produce from area farmers and seeing what the other vendors are selling,” he added.
Held outdoors at the Orland Park Village Center, the market opens for the season on Friday, June 6 and is open every Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October 3. There will be no market July 4 or August 1.
The Orland Park Village Center is located at 14700 South Ravinia Avenue, one block west of LaGrange Road/US Route 45. Nearly 40 vendors sell fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and plants, gourmet food items, oils, bakery goods, salsa, cheese, crafts, jewelry, doggie biscuits, household and personal items, purses and more.
During the summer months, community groups sponsor barbecue lunches offering a sandwich entree, along with a bag of chips, a soft drink and a cookie for a nominal price through August 8.
“We started the barbecue lunches when we realized how many area business people were visiting the market on their lunch hours,” said Trustee Kathy Fenton, who first proposed the market 13 years ago. “This makes it more convenient for everyone who shops on their lunch hours, being able to buy what they need and buy a freshly made barbecue lunch at the same time,” she added.
Children’s activities include the free moon jump and the Orland Park Library Story Time.
A full list of vendors as well as special events and cooking demonstrations appears on the village's website at orlandpark.org
