Eleventh Annual Garden Contest
Posted on 03/27/2009

With spring finally here, the Village of Orland Park is getting reading for the GARDEN season. If you are an amateur gardener, 18 years of age and older and reside within the corporate limits of Orland Park, you are invited to enter the Village's Eleventh Annual Garden Contest and be recognized for what you love to do! Even if you have entered before, you may enter again. The contest is open to residents of detached single-family homes. Sorry, no landscape architects, contractors or professional gardeners are eligible.

Traditional and unusual gardens and those with special features are welcome. Judging will be based on originality, creativity and overall maintenance, as well as the use of native landscaping, color, texture and the variety and combination of plants and flowers used.
Awards will be presented for first, second and third place. Honorable mention awards will be presented for special garden features.

Previous garden contestants will be featured at the Village's annual Garden Walk on Sunday, June 28, 2009. The Garden Walk begins at the Orland Park Civic Center and will include a tour of outstanding gardens in the Village, boutique and craft fair, refreshments and music provided by the Carl Sandburg High School Honors Strings Quartet.

Applications for the Garden Contest are available at the Public Information Desk in the Frederick T. Owens Village Hall, 14700 South Ravinia Avenue or on the village's website at www.orland-park.il.us under Village News. The deadline for entries is July 1, 2009. Judging will take place in July/August and awards will be presented at a Village of Orland Park Board of Trustees meeting in September. Contestants do not need to be home at the time of judging.
