Curbside Spring Clean Up Returns to Village of Orland Park

Durable Goods, Household Appliances & Textiles Picked Up Week of April 15-19

ORLAND PARK, IL (March 25, 2019) – The Village of Orland Park’s annual Curbside Spring Clean Up returns on residents’ normal garbage pick-up days, the week of April 15-19, 2019.

Orland Park's Curbside Spring Clean-Up is held in cooperation with the village's refuse hauler, Waste Management, and will serve more than 22,000 households. Residents are to place all trash and bulk items curbside by 6 a.m. on their pick-up day either bagged, contained or bundled, with no loose garbage.

"The village is happy to again partner with Waste Management to offer the curbside spring clean-up," said Trustee Kathy Fenton, chair of the village's Public Works Committee. "This will be the seventh year that we've offered curbside pick-up and each year we see an increase in the amount of household items getting disposed of safely and properly."

Residents can dispose of durable goods or household items like microwaves, furniture, textiles, carpets, as well as white goods including washers, dryers and refrigerators.

Remove the doors on any white goods and appliances before placing them at the curb to prevent children playing on or around them. If disposing automobile tires the rims must be removed.

Items not accepted during the collection include electronics (televisions, computers, monitors and printers).

To schedule free pick-ups for electronics, paint cans or other hazardous waste, visit http://www.wmatyourdoor.com. Requests for pick up can also be made by phone at (800) 449-7587.

“Orland Park’s Spring Clean Up is a great service for residents wanting to dispose of durable goods,” said Public Works Director John Ingram. “And, while the Spring Clean Up Curbside Collection does not include electronics, paint or hazardous waste, residents can use the free At Your Door Service to safely dispose of those items.”

Hazardous wastes such as paints, oils and solvents will not be picked up during the Spring Clean Up nor will automotive batteries, gas, asbestos, and medical waste. Also excluded are construction and demolition materials -- concrete, rock, dirt, engines or large automotive parts or any oversized items that cannot be placed in a compactor type truck.

For large items, residents should try to break it down into manageable pieces. The trucks can accommodate up to four feet of material. Anything longer than four feet needs to be broken down.
