Village of Orland Park Theatre Troupe invites the community to audition for its upcoming holiday show, The Family Fruitcake.

All actors, age eight and older, are invited to the troupe's auditions happening on Monday Oct. 9 and Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 7- 10 p.m. at Orland Park Cultural Center, 14760 Park Lane.

"We will be casting 19 people for this great holiday comedy," said show director Frann Carnivele. "It is not necessary to bring anything to auditions. All those auditioning will be asked to read from a script."

The Family Fruit Cake is a holiday comedy that includes singing of holiday carols, but there will not be vocal auditions.

The holiday show tells the story of Laurie McKinnon, who is determined that everyone should have a normal Christmas, especially while her eldest son is away serving in the military. Laurie rushes about making sure everything is ready for the impending arrival of the extended family, although her husband, Jim, and teenage daughter, Kelsey, are unconvinced of the need to impress everyone. Meanwhile, youngest daughter Emma arrives downstairs in full camouflage makeup. Her mother is less than enthused. Visitors soon trickle in and comedy ensues.

"This is a very heartwarming story about a typical family during the holidays," Carnivele said. "Traditions, football games, old family recipes, family. And, of course, the family fruitcake! The edible kind or a family member."

Once casted, members must pay a $35 registration fee. Auditions will begin on Oct. 15.

Rehearsals will be Sundays, 12:30-4:30 p.m. and Mondays and Thursdays, 7-10 p.m. at the Cultural Center.

The Family Fruitcake performances will be Dec. 8 & 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Orland Park Civic Center.
