ORLAND PARK, IL (July 7, 2015) – The CJ Wilson Automotive Group enjoys helping police departments in the communities housing its dealerships.

Owned by CJ Wilson, the pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, the automotive group includes a number of dealerships throughout the Chicago area.

“It means a lot to Orland Park and its police department to receive this kind of support from a local business,” said Mayor Dan McLaughlin. “This is a very kind and generous gesture on the part of Mr. Wilson, his staff and the dealerships,” he said.

At the July 6 meeting of the Orland Park Board of Trustees, Police Chief Tim McCarthy formally accepted the grant from the auto group.

“One of the most important pieces of equipment that we purchase every year are bullet proof vests. CJ Wilson Automotive Group gave us a grant for almost $8000 to purchase 10 bullet proof vests,” said Police Chief Tim McCarthy. “They also gave us an additional amount that is being used for more community policing activities,” the chief said.

During the presentation, McCarthy noted that the grant from CJ Wilson helped find the Orland Park Police Department’s “very successful” Teen Citizen Police Academy, providing the materials for the course, lunch and t-shirts for the participants. The grant will also be used to help pay for the department’s Annual Senior Luncheon held on August.

“It’s a huge win for the Police Department, for the village and for CJ Wilson Mazda,” the chief said.

Trustee Dan Calandriello, who chairs the village’s Public Safety Committee, added, “The Orland Park community is very fortunate to have businesses like CJ Wilson Mazda that come forward and recognize what a great job our Police Department does.”
Eric Vates, Vice-President of the CJ Wilson Automotive Group, attended the July 6 meeting to address the board.

“Our police departments historically do unbelievable work in terms of doing charity work for our municipalities. They do fundraising for other groups like Cop On A Rooftop,” Vates said. “We want to give back for all of the good work that they do especially in today’s day and age and keep our police officers safe,” he added. “This is something we do in all of our communities and it’s something we like to take on as our responsibility, making sure our police officers are safe.”

One of the nation’s top Mazda dealerships, CJ Wilson Automotive Group serves the greater Chicago and Los Angeles areas with one of the nation’s largest inventories. There are four CJ Wilson Mazda Chicago area locations, including their Orland Park location, located at 8910 West 159th Street.
