Village of Orland Park Wins THE MIX 101.9 FM BATTLE OF THE BURBS
Residents, Businesses & Civic Groups Voted Via Text and Online

Orland Park, IL (April 6, 2015) – The Village of Orland Park has been named grand champion of THE MIX 101.9 FM's BATTLE OF THE BURBS 2015.

Dubbed Suburban Madness 2015 and sponsored by The Eric and Kathy Morning Show, the contest pitted 16 suburbs against each other and invited listeners to text or vote online for their favorite towns. Nominated by a caller early in the competition, Orland Park defeated Winfield, Illinois; Crown Point, Indiana and then Brookfield, Illinois, facing its south suburban counterpart, Oak Forest, in the final round of competition.

With 141,297 total votes cast over April 3-6, Orland Park earned the top spot with 53% of the vote.

"Orland Park came together for this fun opportunity to rally behind their hometown," said Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin. "We had individuals, families, businesses and civic groups campaigning for Orland Park all over social media throughout the competition," he said.

The mayor spoke with the radio hosts on the air Monday morning soon after Orland Park was named champion. Hosts Eric Ferguson and Kathy Hart dubbed the final round “The Battle of the Big Os” because of the two suburbs in the championship --- Orland Park and Oak Forest.

The hosts chatted with McLaughlin who is a frequent listener of the show and announced their plans to come to Orland Park on Wednesday to present the village with a trophy and bragging rights. Traffic Reporter Melissa McGurren will present the trophy to the mayor.

The presentation will at 8 a.m. on Wednesday at Orland Park Village Hall, located at 14700 Ravinia Avenue in Orland Park. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

The two finalists, Orland Park and Oak Forest, engaged in social media campaigns to make local residents and businesses aware of the contest and to seek votes for their towns.

“The village's Office of Public Information pulled out all stops,” said McLaughlin. “The use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the village's website and our new InOur.Community civic engagement program helped spread the word," the mayor said.
