The Orland Park Police Department has received three reports since September 24, 2008, in regards to elderly residents receiving suspicious phone calls from subjects claiming to be Village of Orland Park Water Department Employees. On two of the occasions the male callers claimed to be Village of Orland Park Water Department employees and advised the resident that they needed to complete a home inspection of their water pipes to check for the presence of lead. The callers wanted to make an appointment to come to the home and even told the resident that they would bring a police officer along. The third call was a male subject claiming to be an employee of the Orland Park Water Department, and he told the resident that they were late on their water bill and they needed to provide a credit card number to pay the bill immediately. When the resident disputed the bill and refused to provide a credit card number, the caller told the resident to go to the village hall the following day to pay the bill.

Water department staff confirmed that these calls were fraudulent. The residents in all three cases contacted the Orland Park Police and reported the phone calls. The Orland Park Police are currently investigating these reports.

Residents are advised that the Village of Orland Park Water Department does conduct residential service calls and inspections, typically by appointment. The employees will always have a Village of Orland Park photo identification card with them at all times. Residents are encouraged to contact the Village of Orland Park Water Department at 708-403-6350, and verify any inspection request or any suspicious phone calls.
