Police Administration

This Division is the management level group responsible for budgeting, planning, inspections, internal affairs, and the administration and coordination of all police services. In addition, this Division also directs the Emergency Services Division.

The Division of Police Administration is made up of the:

  • Chief of Police
  • Deputy Chief of Police
  • Administrative and Technical Services Division Commander
  • Patrol Division Commander
  • Investigation Division Commander
  • Supervisor of Training, Development, and Review
Chief of Police

Joseph Mitchell has been a member of the Orland Park Police Department for more than 25 years. He has served in all divisions of the department, with assignments as patrol officer, narcotics officer, investigator, field supervisor and a lieutenant in patrol, investigations and in administration. Mitchell was the first accreditation manager for the department.

Appointed as Chief in September of 2020, Joseph Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Arts in Aviation from Lewis University and a Master of Science in Public Service from DePaul University. He is a graduate of the Northwestern School Police Staff and Command, the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy and has two children.
