The Village of Orland Park Welcomes New Directors
Finance, Public Works and Recreation Departments under new leadership

ORLAND PARK, IL (May 19, 2020) – The Village of Orland Park proudly welcomes three new directors as the Village’s Finance, Public Works and Recreation Department Directors retire.


“We are pleased that many great candidates showed interest in the director roles opening up within the Village’s departments,” said Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau. “We selected excellent people for these roles and have the utmost confidence in their ability to thrive in their new positions.”


Kevin Wachtel will serve as the Village's new Finance Director. Wachtel replaces Annmarie Mampe who served the Village in the position for over 16 years and will retire at the end of May, 2020.


Wachtel was most recently the Finance Director for the Village of Villa Park. Previously, he served as Finance Director for the Villages of Glen Ellynand Riverside, and previously served as the Assistant Village Administrator for the Village of Palos Park.


Wachtel serves as the Vice-President of the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association (IGFOA) and will be its President in September.


The Village’s new Public Works Director is Joel Van Essen. Van Essen replaces Interim Public Works Director Rich Rittenbacher who has served in the position since the retirement of John Ingram in 2019.


Van Essen comes to Orland Park from Will County where he served as the Facilities Management Director since 2017. Previously he was the Strategic Project Manager for the Center for Cancer Care at University of Chicago. In addition, Van Essen served in the US Navy for over 20 years, his last assignment in the Navy was as Public Works Officer where he led 180 civilian, military and contractor personnel at the third largest US Naval Base in the World.


Ray Piattoni, currently Recreation Division Manager/Assistant Director of Recreation, has been named as the Village’s new Director of Recreation and Parks to begin at June 1, 2020. Piattoni replaces outgoing Recreation Director Nancy Flores who served in the position for over 13 years and will retire at the end of this month.


Piattoni has been with the Village since January 2001 when he was hired as a Facilities Administrator to manage the newly constructed Sportsplex. Over the years, Piattoni has




overseen special events, Centennial Park Aquatic Center, the Orland Park Health and Fitness contract and recreation facilities.
