Code Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the Village of Orland Park's Codes and Ordinances. This includes:

• Current Building Codes
• Property Maintenance Codes
• Rental Housing Codes
• Sign Codes
• Zoning Codes

The most common violations that are reported to Code Enforcement are:

• Landscaping
  • Grass must be maintained under eight (8) inches at all times
  • Weeds removed and treated 
  • Trees and bushes trimmed
• Garbage and Debris - All garbage must be kept in containers with tight fitting lids at all times
  • Residential Property
  • Commercial Property
• Garbage Containers
  • May not be stored in the front of a property. Must be stored in side or rear, or out of public view
  • May only be set out on the parkway 24 hours before or after pickup
• Drainage
  • All drainage, including gutters and sump ejection, must be ten (10) feet from all property lines and not discharge in a manner that would create a public nuisance. 
• Inoperable Vehicles
  • Inoperable vehicles on private property are not allowed. If on a street, please contact the Orland Park Police Department
• Work without Permits
  • Residential
    • Permits for residential properties with the Development Services Department include remodels, decks, patios, driveways, fences, accessory structures, mechanical, electrical, pool, etc...
  • Commercial
    • Occupancy permit and business license is required before doing any work or moving into a commercial space
• Exterior of Buildings
  • All exterior of buildings and accessory structures must be well maintained at all times. This includes brick, siding, window trim, fences, etc...

What do I do if I receive a Notice of Violation from Code Enforcement?

Code Enforcement Officers will contact you in one of the following ways if a code violation is found on your property.

• In Person
• Door Hanger Left on Front Door
• Notice of Violation in the Mail (sometimes sent certified)

Each notice of violation will have a compliance date to correct the violation. If an inspection occurs on or after that date and the violation is not corrected, a citation may be issued with a mandatory court appearance. 

The goal of Code Enforcement is to obtain voluntarily compliance while educating the public on Village Codes and Ordinances. OP311 is a non-emergency system to report Village concerns such as code violations on private property or concerns on public property. To report a concern online, please use the OP311 Portal.

The only request types that are able to be entered anonymously are Code Enforcement Complaints. All other request types require registration.

Registering allows a resident to be able to view all of their submitted requests and to receive updates about their request via email. To register, open the OP311 Portal and click on the Login button.
Within the Login screen, click on the Register button and fill out the requested information.

Please note, when searching for an address, you may have to enter in directional information (example: 14700 S. Ravinia instead of 14700 Ravinia).
