The Taste of Orland Park showcases local eateries and performances of all types from local people, schools and performance groups onto some of the Chicago area’s top bands.

The Village of Orland Park’s three day food fest returns to the Orland Park Village Center, 147th & Ravinia Avenue, August 3 to 5.

“The village’s Recreation Department has been getting ready for the Taste of Orland Park since last year’s ended,” said Trustee Dan Calandriello, chair of the village’s Recreation and Parks Committee. “Along with showing the amazing food that Orland Park restaurants offer, the Taste is a great way to see how very talented Chicago Southland residents are.”

The Orland Park’s Got Talent competition returns this year with preliminary rounds being held at local restaurants before the final competition on August 5.

Final round winners will be awarded prizes valued at $300 for first place, $200 for second place, $100 for third place and $50 for the People’s Choice Award.

Those vying for a spot in the final competition must participate in the preliminary rounds being held at Fox’s Pizza Orland Park and at the Square Celt Ale House and Grill.

“We have three preliminary rounds scheduled before the Taste so our judges can determine who moves onto the finals,” said Orland Park Director of Recreation Nancy Flores. “It’s exciting to see the different acts that come through all hoping to compete at the finals.”

Orland Park’s competition is open to everyone and participants need not live in Orland Park. There is no cost to compete and all ages are welcome.

The preliminary competition opens on Friday, June 22 at Fox’s Orland Park Restaurant, 8655 West 143rd Street, beginning at 7 p.m.

“We’re looking forward to seeing all types of acts,” said Orland Park Recreation Program Supervisor Jean Petrow, who oversees the competition. “There are so many talented children, young adults, adults and seniors and we invite everyone to be a part of this year’s competition.”

Preliminary rounds will also be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 12 and Thursday, July 19 at the Square Celt Ale House and Grill, 39 Orland Square Drive.

Participants must compete in the preliminary round to be considered for the final competition that will be held Sunday, August 5 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the community stage at the Taste of Orland Park.

“People look forward to the Taste of Orland Park every year,” Calandriello added. “It’s a summer highlight in the village and we’re looking forward to another great weekend celebrating our community.”

Lip sync artists are invited to compete for the coveted 2018 Golden Microphone at the Taste of Orland Park Lip Sync Showdown. All ages are invited to compete.

Costumes and dance routines are encouraged for the showdown on the community stage at the Taste of Orland Park on Friday, August 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

There is no charge to participate and pre-registration is encouraged to reserve one of the limited spots. If spots are available, registration will be taken on site from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Email Jean Petrow at jpetrow@orlandpark.org for registration forms and rules. All performances must be family friendly. Final round winners can earn prizes valued at $125 for first place and $50 for the runner up.
